bu.ke Activated Charcoal Soap

written by Olivia Akumu April 1, 2017

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, you’ll know that I’m working really hard to try and improve the quality of my skin. I’ve written about my favourite clear skin  face mask recipe and using essential oils in my skincare routine. I am totally into more natural formulas and products for my skin, and came across this amazing looking soap on my Instagram feed last week.

It’s an activated charcoal soap by Kenyan natural skincare and haircare brand Bu.ke (pronounced bu-kii and formally known as Shea by Asal). Bu.ke says the soap is a super detoxifying facial cleanser that’s recommended for blemished, oily, combination and notaml skin types. It’s made with activated charcoal, vitamin E and peppermint essential oil.

I swear by activated charcoal for its deep cleaning and purifying properties and so this was a no-branier for me. I use this soap with my electric face brush and its offers such a deep clean, but without stripping your skin. Trust me your skin will love this.

You can get this soap for just KES 350. Check out Bu.ke’s Instagram page for details on how to make this yours!

This looks pretty, do you use this as a daily cleanser?

Yes I do. It’s really gentle on the skin so you don’t feel like your face is stripped afterwards. Going to stock up on more as I’m already almost out!

Glad you loved the activated charcoal soap, one of my favourites I’m always repurchasing. Do you mean the bentonite clay powder? It shouldn’t react with your skin so if you got a rash and it peeled I would suggest you stop using it. Did you buy it from bu.ke too?

i love the activated black charcoal. but the packaging design is so annoying. with spirals its so hard to use. i wish it’s design was just like the normal bar soaps since i cant go without it

Hi Eve! I actually like the spiral design, but if you’re finding it tricky turn the soap upside down and use the flat surface to apply 😉
