Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation: Review & Swatches

written by Olivia Akumu May 6, 2017

Happy May lovelies! It’s been a minute! This year is just flying by, can we get a reload? Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback on my Instagram post which asked which products you would like me to review. I’ve taken it on board, and I’m here with a review of the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation. If you’re on social media and watch beauty vlogs on YouTube you can’t have missed to see this foundation all over the place. Honestly, I thought all the attention it was getting might have been the typical hype around all makeup launches these days, but I finally caved, and I’m really glad I did!

The claim:

Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation mattifies and refines pores and leaves a natural, seamless finish. Ideal for normal to oily skin, our exclusive formula with micro-powders controls shine and blurs pores. Leaves a natural, seamless finish.

I swatched the foundation immediately I received it and was very impressed. It blended out seamlessly into my skin into a matte (but not too matte) finish. The formula of this foundation feels very much like M.A.C.’s Studio Fix Fluid, quite runny and easy to build up on the skin, without feeling like it’s sitting on top of the skin. It’s super lightweight and wears beautifully during the day. I’m really happy with how the mattifying part of the formula works considering this is advertised for normal to oily skin types. In fact I had this on for more than 12 hours the other day and I was still looking flawless. Seriously, a quick powder touch up in my oily zones and I would have been good to go!

I’m not too sure about the poreless claims, it certainly does something, but not enough for me to really sing and dance about. If you have trouble with pores, or just want a super airbrushed look, I’d definitely suggest using a pore refining primer first before you go in with this.

The foundation comes in a total of 24 shades, and I picked up the darkest shade 360 Mocha. While 24 shades is great for a drugstore brand, I still definitely have to give a side-eye that my skin tone is the darkest shade. I’d say the shade 360 Mocha is warm, but more on the neutral side – none of this stepping out looking like a tomato! But a quick tip if you happen to be swatching this in a store: it will oxidise and get a bit darker. When I received it I actually thought it was way too light and was worried about all the colour work I’d have to do to make this match. But it oxidise just right and matches me perfectly! So if you’re around an NW47/48 this is good for you, with slightly less red.

Overall, I’d say this foundation is definitely worth buying. Put aside the poreless claims and you’ll be so happy. It’s available at a couple of different Instagram stores, but I picked mine up from @accessories__trend for KES 1,800.

Do you have this foundation? What do you think?
